What True Worship Looks like?

Worship is not singing or involving ourselves in Church Services. Though these spiritual disciplines aid us, we must not lose track of what true worship looks like. Philippians 2 is a classic. It shows how our Lord Jesus emptied Himself in supreme obedience to God. The Kenosis as its termed, shows us on the important character traits that we need to develop as we follow Christ. Worship is thereby a commitment to.

  1. Live like Jesus Christ(Phil 2:5-8) The same selfless approach in service that Christ modelled should be our ambition. He didn't use the position of being the "Son of God" as something to be used to his own advantage. He emptied himself, made of no reputation and served. He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death and that too a humiliating death on a cross. We should orient our life in this way for us to have a lifestyle of worship.
  2. Lift the name of Jesus Christ (Phil 2:9-11) -"Therefore God exalted him to the highest placeand gave him the name that is above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth," The name of our Lord Jesus is the position of highest authority, God who created and established the universe has exalted our Adonai and Master to the highest place and gave Him the name above every other name, Lifting up His sacred name thus is our sacred privilege. When evil spirits, territorial demons try to hunt us down-never forget to lift the name of our Lord. When we sing about His name and experience the power that comes from that- it formes a dimension in our life of worship.
  3. Love the Lord Jesus Christ(Phil 2:11)- Worship is loving the Lord. We eradicate everything that comes in the way. Every other passion, pleasure we subject those desires to the obedience of Christ out of the love we have for Him. St John says-"We love because he first loved us"(1 John 4:19) We pause and ask-"Lord, what do you want me to do?". The Psalmist says -"I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. "

True worship thus is knowing the will of God and doing it by reading and imbibing the Word of God !!
