Tryst with Endometriosis
The Lord has fashioned our bodies with functions for every organ. Truly we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Before our second son was born, we found out that Sheba had a cyst . The doctor who checked the scan results of the cyst ruled out the possibility of any pregnancy and advised hysteroctomy then. We trusted in the Lord and He was faithful to bless us with a seed . We were still bothered about the cyst and had periodic check ups for the same. Our gynaecologist also was keen to see whether there is any increase in size or spread. The cyst maintained its size and was afloat for around ten years. Last check up happened a year back and the gynaecologist commented-"O God". Those words inevitably sent worrying signals. She further commented - "Endometriosis has set in". That's the first time we hear about the sickness.
Through these years Sheba had associated pains in her stomach, heel , abdominal area and had many other difficulties too. We usually negated it and attributed it to a gas issue or food issues. The doctor alerted to do a small procedure at the earliest. This July, the pain became pertinent and we had to rush to the doctor again . We were advised to do MRI,CT Scans and discovered that it became widespread affecting the nearby organs. We were suggested to do the procedure at the earliest at the specialised center.
By God's grace, we could complete the surgery and now she is at home. Through this journey, we experienced the love of God through various means. The doctors who diagnosed and did the surgery , the nurses who were ready to serve at all times, the church community who stood with us like a rock with love, prayers and encouragement , the family and friends who stood close and made sure that we were never alone in this. Truly "love never fails"(1 Cor 13:8)
Having said that we live in a period of sicknesses of various kinds. Science and medicine also have progressed much that timely diagnosis and prognosis can alleviate a whole lot of issues. Healing can come from medicines and treatment. We also should be empathetic to those suffering around us. Enquiring, praying, serving one another can do a great deal in the healing process. Being non challant is not the right way to go about when anyone is in trouble. Healing also comes when we pray and we see Him opening various doors at the right time to move forward.
We go through various troubles and sicknesses in life. Our bodies are not redeemed yet. When Christ comes, He will transform our lowly bodies into the likeness of His glorious body(Phil 3:20)
