The Massive Energy Crisis!

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has resulted in wide spread crisis across the world. Cuba has declared zero fuel reserves. Srilanka declared fuel rationing. Oil prices have increased even in the developed nations.

PM Narendra Modi in his rallies this week announced some austerity measures to the nation. As expected the fuel prices have been increased and it will definitely have a cascading effect in every aspect of our life.

Key Austerity Measures Announced (May 2026):

• Reduce Gold Consumption: Citizens are urged to avoid purchasing gold for one year due to rising import bills ($72 billion in 2025-26).
• Fuel Conservation: Recommendations include carpooling, increased use of public transport, and reducing personal petrol/diesel consumption.
• Limit Foreign Travel: A call to limit international travel and destination weddings to conserve foreign exchange.
• Promote Domestic Goods: A push to buy Indian-made products over foreign items to support the domestic economy.
• Agricultural Changes: Farmers are asked to reduce chemical fertilizer usage by half and adopt natural farming methods.
• Work-from-Home: Increased preference for virtual meetings to save fuel.
