G’Mar Hatima Tova

Gmar Hhatima Tova is the traditional way of greeting one another before and on Yom Kippur(Day of Atonement). This means-" a good final sealing". Its a day of complete rest and the nation of Israel virtually comes to a standstill. The Jewish community believe that their repentance and prayers are aceepted by God and their names are writted , sealed and inscribed for the new year.

The New Testament reveals whats hidden in the New Testament. God sent His Son to show mankind the way back to God.(John 1:18) He revealed the invisible realm and traits of God. Life is not just about things that happen on earth. Eternal life , Life in abundance(Zoe Life) is what Christ came to the earth for. John the Baptist thus remarked-"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all."(John 3:31)

Jesus our Lord warned about being earthly minded.

"And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."(Luke 12:15)

" But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."(Matt 6:33)

The Gospel of John is very clear about the mission of God. He spoke to the religious Nicodemus on the necessity to be born of water and the Spirit (John 3). He revealed Himself to the Samaritan Woman- “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”(John 4:10)

St Paul emphasizes this in his teachings too- to seek things above(Col 3:1)

We should not be earthly minded and lose track of heavenly truth, reality and destiny. So the greeting Gmar Hatima Tova is relevant not for earthly life -but for life after this life.

In the Book of Revelation we read-" Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."(Rev 20:15)

Hear the words of our Lord and Saviour -"However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”(Luke 10:20)
