From Cain(Restless Wanderer) to Noah (Rest)

Adam and Eve, the Crown of God's creation, had to hide from God. The disobedience brought in all the negative effects. Genesis-Bereshit is also the beginning of God's involvement with man and also the beginnings of disobedience. People who obeyed God were honored and those who disobeyed were rejected. In fact that's the whole story of the Bible.

Cain disobeyed God and didn't take up his responsibility of "protecting" his brother. The Sons of God (divine beings) didn't obey God but cultivated unhealthy relationships with daughters of men and nephilim (giants) were everywhere. Later Peter says "After being made alive,he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits—  to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built"( 1 Peter 3:19-20) .

Noah was different. Lamech named him Nuach, which has a meaning of Rest and also closely related to the Hebrew word "Chen" which means Grace. He heard from God and the man whose name was "rest" sprung into action. He preached and preached. Yet noone other than his family were saved.

"Noah did everything just as God commanded him"(Gen 6:22)(Gen 7:5)

This is the secret of divine rest. When we do it all according to His word, we get a rest inside. Yet we labor for the Lord with this contentment inside. The journey from Cain to Noah is not easy.

Cain said"  I will be a restless wanderer on the earth," but Noach was called as rest and true rest came when the Ark rested on Mount Ararat. (Gen 8:4) Where are we in our life?

Are we restless wanderers or have we cultivated rest from the obedience to God's Word?
